Jag fattade ingenting först.
Hade jag Cubs-jersey på mig? Nej.

Däremot en Toronto Maple Leafs-jacka** och de förlorade tydligen mot Montreal 2-3.

3) Cubs

Game 1 result: The first pitch thrown by Matthew Boyd was hit 405 feet by Fernando Tatis Jr. Things really didn’t get any better from there in a 8-0 loss.

Why they’re in trouble: The Cubs lost their ability to host this series by going 11-13 in the final month, while the Padres went 18-6. Game 1 was a clear continuation of those trajectories.

Pitching is problematic for this Cubs team. Only the A’s (247) allowed more homers than the Cubs (231) this year. The long ball killed them in Game 1. And you don’t want to fall behind against a Padres team with the best bullpen of this postseason field.

Why they can rally: San Diego’s Game 2 starter Nick Pivetta, who missed much of this season with an injury, is a much more favorable matchup for the Cubs than Michael King was. Pivetta’s fly-ball tendencies and opponent barrel rates play to the strengths of a Cubs offense that led the NL in home runs (220).

If the Cubs can force a Game 3, they could see Walker Buehler, against whom they posted a .968 OPS in two games this year. The Padres’ other starting option would be Robbie Ray, who was solid in his lone start against the Cubs but has had some struggles since a midseason trade to San Diego. In other words, there could be opportunities for the Cubs’ high-octane offense to do its thing.
